Hi everyone, our little girl Kimberley is 4 years old and doesn't chew, we have tired showing her, given her food that she needs to chew and when we tell her she needs to chew this food she shakes her head.  She puts the food on the roof of her mouth and uses her tounge to squash it, and sometimes holds the food in the bottom of her mouth.  She would rather try to swallow it whole than to chew and then gags on it so always has to be mashed or small chunky which she swallows.  Don't know what to…See More

We're wondering if there are any great areas we should check out for schools and if anyone has any good contacts for special needs care in the area. Obviously the Ministry of Ed will put us in touch with people but if we can start looking now it will be better.…See More

Seclusion Rooms in primary schools

I'm distressed to learn about these - I suppose they are a desperate measure by teachers but one that cant be tolerated.  Checking if your local school has one & asking if it has been shut down would keep attention on this issue. I've emailed 'special.education@education.govt.nz '   to voice my shock & opposition.  I'll be checking the school my granddaughter is going to go to & I'll check my 10 year old granddaughter's Porirua school.  It would be helpful for schools to say what…See More
